FOUND DOG

This was sent to me by a friend .. if you ever find a dog and want to find the owner she has developed this procedure to help....

Just from doing it for so many years, I've come up with this.

The sooner you start the better. Don't wait even one hour. Most people know the dog is missing pretty quickly and the first thing they do is drive around. I used to send my kids out to stand on the lawn and if they saw a car driving slowly, to holler "Did you lose a dog" Also if I could I would stand out there for bit with the dog.

THen take a digital picture and blow it up to the dogs face. NOt the body. Put it in a plastic cover from walgreen's that kids use for projects and tape the top and bottom. Put them up at the gates to ALL neighborhoods. Farther away than you think. A friend may recognize your dog. Keep the description limited and make anyone who calls give you some info.

Forget Randalls etc.I like to use Blockbusters if they' ll let you. I have a lot of luck but other people tell me they don't. I ask to see the manager and bring the animal if I can to melt his heart. I promise up front what date I'll take it down whether I get a call or not. And then I do it.

There is a lost dog Houston web site. The animals are 9 X out of 10 from your area. Take the dog in your care and drive around and as joggers and walkers if they recognize.

I don't recommend leaving the dog to roam. It could get hit and the chances of it finding it's way home are nil.Any owner would prefer you lock it up rather than risk an accident.

Get it scanned of course at your vet's.

Feed it. Forget the stupid rule. It it's hungry feed the poor thing. It got fed at home and left there.

If you belong to a tennis club, a charity thing or what ever, if you have access to some email use it. A friend might recognize it. It happened to me once. I recognized a picture of a dog at a tennis lunch. She just put it on the buffet. It was a friend's dog.

Where you put the lost pictures is crucial. It has to be where you might just catch a glimpse of it. Remember, people aren't looking for it like a garage sale sign. They'll stumble into it. You have 3 seconds to make an impression as they drive by. The photo is the best way.

We have a neighborhood thing set up here where someone volunteers to be the number you call if you have a lost or found pet.I do it for my neighborhood. I got a call the other day about a found Parakeet in Lakewood Crossing. I saw a sign for a lost Parakeet about 2 years ago from Norchester. I called the Norchester liaison and she still had her records and found it. It was the same bird , lost again. It's so nothing to do and it works so well. We put the name and number in the neighborhood newsletter every month. A lady from Norchester writes a little funny story every month too to draw attention to us.
